4 Summer Camps Your Kids Will Love in Wilson, NC

April 26th, 2018 by

Thanks to many youth organizations in the area, the city of Wilson, North Carolina, is a great place for children to get involved with local groups. Children and adolescents who need something to do during the summer are especially spoiled for choice, as Wilson has several great summer camps. Here are just a few of them.

The SPOT is a social organization seeking to empower adolescents by building their confidence and self-esteem. The group’s name stands for “Share Positive Outcomes Together.” The SPOT holds summer camps every year, which seek to prevent “learning loss,” which is what occurs when children forget what they have learned during the school year or experience a decline in reading achievement.

In addition to educational initiatives, attendees will enjoy swimming, skating, watching movies, and participating in team-building activities. A day at this summer camp includes breakfast and lunch. Parents can send in applicants for their children online; the summer camp fee is $240.

Athletic Camps
If your child is athletically inclined, he or she may be especially excited about the chance to join a summer camp sponsored by the Wilson County Youth Athletic Association. This is a nonprofit organization seeking to impart values of sportsmanship, cooperation, honesty, and courtesy to its participants. The group’s summer camps are available for boys and girls between the ages of three years and 17 years.

Summer camp activities include baseball, basketball, softball, and volleyball. Parents are encouraged to sign their children up by calling Athletic Director Mickey Davis; contact information is available on WCYAA’s web site.

Dance Camps
Hunter’s Dance is a Wilson-based dance studio that offers lessons for children and teenagers. Students are instructed in state-of-the-art facilities by a variety of dedicated permanent staff, as well as guest instructors and choreographers. Hunter’s Dance runs summer camps with various fun themes that kids are sure to love.

The studio has yet to release its 2018 schedule of camps, but previous years have included themes like Broadway, Beauty and the Beast, and “Artdaze.” Summer camp costs range anywhere from $130 to $410 dollars, and each program runs for about four days.

Wilson Arts Council
Students participating in this summer camp will spend most of their time indoors, but they will still have access to an enriching and engaging experience. Children and teens in kindergarten through 12th grade can sign up for ceramics, cooking, comic book art, dancing, drawing, music, painting, and theater summer camps with the Wilson Arts Council.

These camps range in length from one week to several weeks, so it’s possible for a single student to attend multiple camps throughout the season. Attendance fees are modest and financial assistance is available, though students will have to bring their own lunches.

Summer camps are a great way for children to remain academically and socially engaged during the summer, and they can also be a convenient way for parents to ensure that their children are supervised while they’re at work. Consider one of these camps to give your child a summer to remember.
