5 Last-Minute Weekend Getaways From Raleigh
Sometimes, when life gets hectic and stressful, a last-minute weekend getaway can make a world of difference. It can be difficult, however, to figure out where to go, especially if you’re planning your getaway with little time before the weekend. We’ve listed our top five weekend getaways that are close enough to Raleigh for a quick trip to relax and unwind, but far enough away to get your mind off your busy schedule.
Cumberland Falls Bed & Breakfast Inn, Asheville
At Cumberland Falls Bed & Breakfast Inn is a romantic, historic inn nestled among lush gardens. The bed and breakfast has six distinct rooms that are individually decorated with historic furnishings and antiques with luxe bedding and private bathrooms. While many bed and breakfasts forgo Wi-Fi, At Cumberland Falls is fully connected.
The bed and breakfast is just a three-minute walk from the botanical gardens and a quick drive away from the stunning Biltmore Estate. Because this is a smaller bed and breakfast, it’s easier to find vacancies during the off-season for last-minute visits.
The Blue Ridge Mountains
With some of the most stunning vistas in North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Mountains are a fantastic destination for a getaway. Bring a tent and go camping on any of the fantastic campgrounds near the highway, or consider staying at any of the privately owned cabins in the mountains. You should be able to find a cabin via Airbnb or VRBO with no difficulty, even for last-minute trips.
1889 WhiteGate Inn & Cottage, Asheville
Another fantastic bed and breakfast in Asheville, the 1889 WhiteGate Inn & Cottage is a historic home that has been converted into a fabulously luxurious bed and breakfast. There are multiple poetry-themed rooms to choose from and a lovingly restored solarium with views out onto the award-winning garden.
Like the At Cumberland Falls Bed & Breakfast, it will be easiest to find a vacancy during the off-season for last-minute visits, but it’s definitely possible to get a room if you keep your eye on their website.
North Carolina Coastline
The coast is a short trip away from Raleigh and is a wonderful destination for a quick weekend getaway with minimal hassle. There’s plenty of Airbnb and VRBO options here as well as bed and breakfasts and boutique hotels in the many coastal towns that line the Atlantic. Consider visiting Hatteras Island or Little Washington for some fantastically fresh seafood and unique shopping. If you’re looking for a more upscale destination, St. Simon’s is popular for couples and beachgoers looking for a romantic mini-vacation.
Uwharrie National Forest
Uwharrie National Forest isn’t quite as far of a drive from Raleigh and is a great choice for outdoor adventures and fresh air. There are both primitive and camper camping grounds available for rent. There are three picturesque rivers in the 50,000-acre forest that you are free to fish in as well as plenty of trails for hiking opportunities.
These five weekend getaways are perfect for people looking for a reprieve from daily life with minimal planning involved.
