5 Things to Look For in the 2019 Toyota Prius
Except for adding some new equipment and features throughout the years, the Toyota Prius hasn’t seen a redesign since it debuted its fourth-generation model in 2016. However, all of that is about to change with some exciting new updates coming for the 2019 model. Learn more about what you can expect for the 2019 Toyota Prius.
Exciting New Facelift
One of the biggest changes you’ll see on the 2019 Toyota Prius is a redesigned exterior. Although the Japanese car manufacturer has only released teaser pictures at this point, it looks like the new Prius will see updates to the front and rear end. In the front, this includes reshaped headlights that have a slimmer and more swept-back look, new upright LED daytime running lights, and a revised lower intake. In the back, the taillights also have a new redesign that mirrors the L-shaped look of the headlights.
Plenty of Standard Exterior Features
Based on the pictures of the new model, it looks like the hybrid vehicle will continue to feature most of the same standard equipment you can find on the 2018 Toyota Prius. For the time being, this includes a keyless entry and ignition; LED headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights; and 15-inch wheels. One interesting thing to note is that it appears as though the alloy wheels in the pictures are the same as those currently on the i-Tech model. However, that could change when the new Prius is officially revealed in December.
Possible Upgrade to Engine
Along with new looks on the outside, there are rumors that the 2019 Toyota Prius could see some updates to the engine as well. The vehicle currently has a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that works with Toyota’s famous hybrid system to produce 120 pound-feet of torque and offer an estimated 54 mpg combined. If the Prius does see some improvements to the engine, this could conceivably boost its EPA ratings.
Nice Interior Features
Although no interior pictures were shared during the sneak peek, most industry experts believe the 2019 Prius will continue to offer many of the great interior features you can currently find in the vehicle. This includes a smart-flow climate control system and an infotainment system that comes standard with a 6.1-inch touch-screen display, USB port, auxiliary port, music streaming and hands-free phone capability using Bluetooth connectivity, and advanced voice recognition controls.
Excellent Safety Features Included
The preview of the 2019 Toyota Prius didn’t include any information about changes to the safety features. Therefore, it’s safe to assume the vehicle will continue to come standard with Toyota Safety Sense, which includes lane departure alert with steering assist, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed dynamic radar cruise, and automatic high beams. Additionally, since it’s unlikely the IIHS will change its safety rating system, the 2019 Prius will likely retain its Top Safety Pick rating.
If you’re thinking about upgrading to a new hybrid vehicle, the redesign of the 2019 Toyota Prius should offer plenty of new style and features that you’ll love.
