Raleigh is a great city for sports fans, and if you like to cheer on the Wolfpack, you’ll find many excellent college bars, dives, and sports taverns to watch the games. Don’t stay in the next time NC State takes the field. Check out one of these locations, and rub elbows with other North Carolinians who share your passion. Here are some of the best places across Raleigh to watch NC State football games.

Mitch’s Tavern
Mitch’s Tavern is a pub with a wide selection of beer and liquor, and it’s a great place to catch a game over some excellent food. If you’re hungry, you can warm up with the tavern’s famous gumbo and chili (gluten free) or pick up one of the specials, which includes items like roast pork sandwiches and pulled pork tacos. If you want to celebrate a rivalry game or the season opener, you can book a private room here, which can seat up to 30 people.

Mitch’s is open at 11 a.m., Monday to Friday; 11:30 on Saturdays; and at 5 p.m. Sundays. It closes at midnight every day. You can find this pub at 2426 Hillsborough St.

Boxcar Bar + Arcade
Boxcar Bar + Arcade is a popular college bar famous for its lively atmosphere. Dozens of arcade cabinets and pinball tables line the walls, including retro classics like Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong, 90s hits like Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam, and newer titles like Game of Thrones and The Hobbit pinball machines. You can also try Giant Jenga or grab an N64 or Super Famicom and order a title to play for free off the Console Game Menu.

Of course, video games aren’t the only entertainment on the TVs here. Come by to watch NC State football, and take a break at half time to drop some tokens in your favorite game or play a round of Skeeball.

You can find the bar and arcade at 330 W. Davie St. One of the best things about this location is that it’s dog friendly! Bring your best friend to watch the game with you — pups are welcome inside and outside the building. The bar is open from 4 a.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Wednesday; 4 a.m. to 2 a.m., Thursday through Friday; 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday; and 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Sunday.

The Players’ Retreat
The Players’ Retreat is a restaurant and sports bar at 105 Oberlin Rd. If you want a less hectic experience over ribs or a steak alongside a stout glass of scotch, this is your bar.

The Players’ Retreat has a full menu with a wide selection of starters, chilis and soups, salads, entrees, and more. Burgers and hot dogs are crowd favorites, but there’s enough variety on the menu to keep everyone happy. The restaurant and bar is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on the weekends. The kitchen is open all day.

Raleigh has some wonderfully unique pubs, taverns, and watering holes. If you’re still deciding where you’ll catch the next NC State football game, go with one of these locations.
